80% Humidity is Too High for Cannabis

80% humidity is generally considered too high for cannabis cultivation. Cannabis plants thrive in a controlled environment with specific humidity levels to ensure optimal growth, prevent mold and mildew issues, and maximize yield and quality. Here's why 80% humidity is too high for cannabis:

1. Risk of Mold and Mildew: High humidity levels create a favorable environment for mold and mildew growth on cannabis plants. Mold and mildew can quickly spread in damp conditions, leading to crop damage, reduced potency, and potential health hazards if consumed.

2. Increased Pest Activity: High humidity can attract pests such as spider mites, fungus gnats, and whiteflies, which thrive in moist environments. Pest infestations can harm cannabis plants, reduce yields, and require additional measures for pest control.

3. Decreased Transpiration: Excessively high humidity can hinder transpiration, the process by which plants release moisture through their leaves. This can result in reduced nutrient uptake, stunted growth, and overall stress on cannabis plants.

4. Flowering Issues: During the flowering stage, maintaining moderate humidity levels is crucial for proper bud development and resin production. High humidity levels can lead to bud rot, moldy buds, and decreased potency, affecting the overall quality of the harvested cannabis.

Proper Humidity Level for Cannabis Cultivation

For cannabis cultivation, it's generally recommended to maintain humidity levels within the following ranges based on the growth stage:

Vegetative Stage: 40-60% humidity

Flowering Stage: 40-50% humidity (lower humidity levels are preferred during the flowering stage to reduce the risk of bud rot and mold)

To control humidity levels effectively, cannabis growers often use dehumidifiers for commercial cannabis, air conditioning, ventilation systems, and humidity monitors (hygrometers) in their indoor grow rooms or greenhouse environments. Maintaining proper humidity levels is essential for achieving healthy, vigorous cannabis plants and high-quality yields.

Preair develops the PRO and ZETA series of dehumidifiers for agriculture and horticulture use. The ZETA series of dehumidifiers have a large capacity and cost-effective. The PRO serise dehumidifiers not only have a larger capacity, but also are more efficient than the ZETA dehumidifiers. Welcome growers consult!
