Humidity for Drying Weed

When drying weed (cannabis), humidity control is one of the most critical factors affecting the final quality, including flavor, smoothness, and potency. Here’s a clear guide:

Ideal Humidity Range

Target humidity range: 50–60% RH (relative humidity)

Best for most growers: 55% RH

This allows buds to dry slowly and evenly, preserving terpenes and cannabinoids.

Temperature Range

Ideal temperature range: 60–70°F (15–21°C)

Avoid: High temperatures (>75°F / 24°C), which cause buds to dry too fast, trapping chlorophyll and reducing flavor.

Drying Duration

Typical drying duration: 7–14 days
(Slower drying = smoother smoke)

If RH drops below 45%, buds dry too quickly and become harsh.

If RH exceeds 65%, mold or mildew can develop.

Airflow & Ventilation

The drying room should maintain gentle, indirect airflow.

Growers could use oscillating fans, not blowing directly on the buds.

It needs to ensure air exchange to prevent stale, humid pockets.

Equipment Tips

Use grow room dehumidifiers: Keeps RH within 50–60%, especially in humid climates.

Apply hygrometers: Essential for constant RH monitoring.

Air scrubber or carbon filter: Controls odor during drying.

Preair is a reliable dehumidifier factory that offers high-quality and professional grow room dehumidifiers. The Guard70 dehumidifier has a delicate design with clear function signs, connection ports, supporting third-party controllers, and hygrometers. The size of the ceiling mounted dehumidifier is small, which means it is easy to install. The capacity of the dehumidifier is 70 L/Day @26.7℃/60%RH. It works well during the temperature range of 5 - 38℃ and the humidity range of 10% - 90%RH.

Extra Tip for Quality

Once the outer surface feels dry and small stems snap instead of bend, move buds to curing jars at 58–62% RH to finish the process. If you have other questions about humidity control, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
